Volunteer Code of Conduct
As a Volunteer, I agree to:
Be Committed
o Offer your time and energy only if you truly believe in what you plan to do
Be a Team Player
o Remember that volunteering is a team effort
o Play by the rules
o Keep in mind that everyone is here to help
Be Open to Learning and Hard Work
o Most volunteers are called upon to learn new and unfamiliar tasks to meet the needs of the people with whom they work.
o Your training is important to the success of your effort
Be Willing to Accept Supervision
o A positive attitude and eagerness to take direction will be welcome in any situation
o Remember you are here to help, and doing it the established way will work best
Be Dependable
o People will be counting on you
o You need to take your commitment seriously
o Abide by your time and consistency commitment
o Communicate to the Volunteer Coordinator or your site Supervisor when you will be absent or late for your volunteering time
o Read the volunteer newsletter to keep up to date with FCV
Be Respectful
o Respect the cultures, beliefs, opinions and decisions of others, although you may not always agree
o Treat each other with courtesy, sensitivity, tact, consideration and humility
o Accept the chain of command and respect each other regardless of position
o Treat all people as unique individuals and value their beliefs, opinions, knowledge and experiences
o Use appropriate language that will not offend others
o Encourage people to achieve and grow
Waiver of Liability
This agreement releases Feeding Champlain Valley from all liability relating to injuries that may occur while preparing, cooking, cleaning, lifting, making boxes and any other activities that may happen while volunteering at Feeding Champlain Valley locations, including the Burlington Food Shelf (located at 228 N. Winooski Avenue in Burlington), the Chittenden Food Hub (located at 156 Acorn Lane in Colchester), the Addison Food Hub (located at 616 Exchange Street, Suite 1 in Middlebury), NorthWest Family Foods (located at 5 Lemnah Drive in St. Albans), and the Richford Food Shelf (located at 53 Main St. in Richford).
By signing this agreement, I agree to hold Feeding Champlain Valley entirely free from any liability, including financial responsibility for injuries incurred, regardless of whether injuries are caused by negligence.
By signing below I forfeit all right to bring a suit against Feeding Champlain Valley for any reason. I will also make every effort to obey safety precautions as listed in writing and as explained to me verbally. I will ask for clarification when needed.
